Dear all,

I am considering taking the plunge and getting a Cinema Display for my G4 -- are there any users out there who would like to talk about their experiences with this beast? e.g. Are you happy? Do you think the investment was worth it? How is the picture quality? And is it easy on the eyes?

Definitely worth it. No more headaches and as crisp as can be. Screen width flexibility is great for writing papers and code. Same resolution as the SGI1600 but the bigger pixels are much easier on the eyes (first hand experience with both).

Just make sure your G4 has an ADC connector. My older G4/450 Sawtooth has a DVI connector so I have to buy a friggen $300 adapter from Gefen (http://www.gefen.com) to make my new Cinema Display work with it.

Why did I buy an ADC Cinema Display for a DVI G4? I actually ordered a DVI display (open box return from MacZone) but the ADC one was sent to me by accident. So now I've gotta make the best of it.

I can't wait to get my friggen Gefen connector shipped to me so I can use my new baby.

One alternative you might consider is the Sony 24" widescreen Trinitron...but the Cinema Display looks damned spiffy on my desktop.

Wouldn't the gravitational attraction from the Sony just pull the eyeballs out of your head?

Well, I've decided to take the plunge and get one; with my bad eyesight and work in molecular biology and molecular modelling, I'm sure I'll justify it to myself...

I'm sure I will, don't know about that bank balance! Looks like it's simple pasta meals for me for the next few months!

But at least it'll be easy on the eyes. Gives a new meaning to the phrase "It's the vision thing!".
