I'll be getting a new iBook shortly and have decided against the internal cd-rw drive...so I'm looking for an external unit. I burn CD's infrequently, so speed isn't an issue (I was happy with 4x burning on my old PC). What can I get for $150 or so that works with OS X?

Are there any cd-rw drives that don't use their own power supply (i.e. are powered by the bus) AND that work with OS X? I'd like to avoid adding another power cable to my collection...

TIA,
Jeff[/LIST]

I don't know anything about CDRW drives that are powered by the bus, and I'm guessing you'll pay more than $150 for any such drive.

If you can stomach a power cable, and a full sized unit, I'd get an external Firewire case such as http://www.caloptic.com/cable.html

Steer clear of any non OSX compatible drives (drive mechanisms) as listed here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/compatibility/

Get any of the other models as cheap as you can find them, pop it in the Firewire enclosure and you should then have yourself a very decent Firewire external for a very decent price.
