Firewire 800 seems slow w/ MyBook

I have a 17" PB with 60GB 4200rpm drive and a 500GB Firewire 800 MyBook external drive connected. I'm using Superduper to do backups and it's reporting transfer rates of around 8MB/s. I read online that FW800 can go up to 49MB/s.

Is the 4200rpm drive the bottleneck, or is something else not working correctly?

60GB 4200RPM is slow, but shouldn't be that slow.

I've noticed that some backup software just sucks. Command line file transfer to an external disk on an iMac went about 30MBps, but using Danz Retrospect it went about 10MBps.
