I have just purchased a new LaCie Electron 22 Blue monitor for my Beige 266DT G3 (224MB ram) running OS 9.1 (UK). The mac is standard, apart from a 100baseT network PCI card (which I have taken out as part of my trouble shooting). The monitor is attached to a LaCie Blue adaptor (mac to VGA) with the correct switches on (1 & 2). (Connected to 'signal A' port in the back of the monitor.)

The problem is that the monitor doesn't always receive a signal. For example, when I start up the mac (from shut down or restart) I hear the chime and the monitor turns itself on and displays the signal check dialogue.
From this point there is no other noise coming from the mac - like it has frozen before anything has loaded.

(note: On a restart from a shut down, the hard disk spins for a couple of seconds as normal but then stops.
This is different from a restart because there is no hard disk spinning sound immediately after the chime.)

When it does work, after a couple of second of silence, the monitor displays a grey screen, then the hard disk spins and shows the happy mac face.

This is the second monitor and adaptor. The first one has been sent back to LaCie and works fine on a test Beige G3. They are saying it is a mac problem.

I have tried everything I know.
Clean install
Initialised the hard drive and reinstalled everything.
Checked the cables
Zapped the PRAM

All resulting in the same problem - random will work/won't work.

It does sound like a dodgy PRAM, which was one of the first things I tried, but the keyboard zap wouldn't always work because the start up process wouldn't get that far, so I used 'TechTool 1.2.1' to zap it.

The keyboard zap would usual only result in the AppleTalk control panel returning to 'Printer Port'.
The TechTool zap would only reset: AppleTalk, Default Alert Sound and Insertion Point Blinking speed. Time, mouse speed, monitor resolution were unaffected.
The reason I am stating this is because I think it is a little strange that not all settings were reset and that this may be a symptom of a different problem.

I can sometimes get the monitor to work by force restarting. Sometimes once, sometimes as many as 6 times.

Similar symptoms are documented on some DP G4's, and a ROM update solved that. (This will not work form me.)

My other monitors work fine.

I have an old 7100/66 running 7.5.5 and have tried the monitor on there with similar results. (Monitor displays signal check dialogue but the mac continues to start up, but then the hard disk stops spinning (after about 60 secs) I think it has crashed because I have no keyboard input.

I am sorry for the long post, but I hope I can get this sorted.
Kind regards

I have posted about my new G4 450DP problem with a M. Diamond Pro I used perfectly for three years with previous Mac. (Sadly no replies) .

According to my dealer's tech dept.they suggest there could be an issue which affects even the current Mitsubishi range (ie your Electron Blue) which makes them incompatible with ATI Rage Pro card. Possibly some rather than all, otherwise we would surely have read more on the subject?

I am now using a spare Iiyama VM Pro 400 - same vintage as the 67TXV - without any problem, though its not quite as sharp as the Diamond Pro.

Addded...I am using 9.1 with the firmware upgrade

UPDATE

After more trouble shooting, I found that my mac would work OK if the monitor was turned off at restart (turned on after the hard disk starts to spin)

Sorry to hear about your monitor problem.
When you say you have the firmware update, are you referring to the one from Apple or Mitsubish. What is your ROM version? If it is 4.9.1, 5.2.1 or 5.5.1 then try the update from Mitsubish (if you haven't already).

Try Zapping your RAM
Try removing the Monitor Prefs from the preference folder.

Sorry, that is all I can suggest.
