During start-up of OS 9.1, the cinema display switches suddenly to a mode, were the screen is horizontally shifted. The Apple Menu is as close as 15cm to the right side of the screen. and there is a 5cm vertical dead are, which can't be accessed by the mouse.

Solution is always to go back to 1024x768 and switch again to 1600x1024.

any guess ?

Is your Cinema Display an ADC model or DVI model?

my local dealer told me, the nvidia card needs to be replaced. Is yhis correct ? The card works fine besides of the start-up problem.

You don't say if your card is ATI or NVidia but it sounds like a driver problem or extension conflict. Try reinstalling the appropriate drivers from the software install CD. If that doesn't solve it go all the way back to extension conflict resolution 101 and start with the OS 9.1 Base set and work up from there until you find the culprit. Let us know how that went.

Good luck!

sorry - I forgot to mention that. It is a all brand new Dual533 with the Nvidia Gforce2 video card in it.
Interestingly the only circumstance it doesn't happen is when I boot the system of the System CD OS9.1 I have reinstalled a fresh versio of OS9.1: It happens. I have used the Restore CD to change the HD back to its inital state : It happens. In other words if it's a extension conflict, it happens even by using Apple core system and drivers...

still no solution for this. Maybe I 'll try to disable the Nvidia extensions once...

btw, the Cinema display is the coolest thing on my desk. Pretty slick together with the Dual533.

If it is working fine off the CD that behavior pretty much confirms software problems, or a physical problem with the hard drive media, but I would bet on software. It could be a bad pref's file, I don't remember for sure but I think the prefs stay around during a clean reinstall. Try trashing all the video related prefs and see how that goes (save 'em somewhere off the machine first though).

If you don't have it yet (and I believe the shipping CD does not), try getting the GeForce 2 MX driver update that was released a few weeks ago.
