Hey everyone I just received my mac last week, I love everything about it!

One thing that is bothering me is the optical out. I have Logitech Z-5500 connected directly with the optical cable, and have the audio settings set to "Digital Out" under Sound Effects as well as under Output.

My question is this: In windows my Logitech receiver told me I was receiving Digital Data even when nothing was playing. However in OSX it says "No Digital Data" until i play something, say in itunes. So the issue is that there is a delay between when the sound starts playing, and when the receiver plays it. Is this normal? Its really annoying because say for an IM alert i will never hear it because by the time the receiver knows data is coming, the alert has already played.

The second question is when I am using QuickTime in a browser, say FireFox or Safari sound will ONLY play through the INTERNAL speaker. I have everything set to play Optical Out, but still it will play internal only. Whats up with that?

If I hook my logitech up through standard line out - EVERYTHING works fine. No sound delay, and Quicktime plays sounds through the logitech speakers.

Please help if you have any ideas WHY this may be happening!!

Thanks

in applications/utilities/Audio MIDI Setup under audio devices does it look like this if not set it up the same way

if it still has delay, mess around with the setting in there. if you mess it up just set it up like mine, because i have everything working.
