I currently have 3 firewire devices connected to my Ti PowerBook. I have noticed something that bothers me.

I have a firewire 40 gig hd, a que cd-rw and a fujitsu 1.3 magnetic optical.

I have noticed that when my hard drive is the first item in a firewire chain, it operates normally, and very well. But the cd-rw (next in the chain) fails to burn correctly.

When the cd-rw is first in the chain and the hard drive the 2nd item, I notice that when I copy large files to the hard drive, that it copies over a percentage of data and then kinda freezes. It stops for awhile, and then after about 30 to 45 seconds, it continues coping for a few more seconds and then stops again. I believe this is what was happening with the cd-rw when it was 2nd in the chain.

I have ordered a firewire hub made by orangelink, and I hope that fixes the problem.

There's a chance it's a cable problem if your problem is always with the second link in the chain and you've only switched devices OR

it may be a driver or peripheral firmware conflict. You also haven't mentioned how the Fujitsu fits into the picture.

Please let the forum readers know the brand and model names of the peripherals, what version of System you are running and what drivers were installed with the various devices.

If you are using 9.1, try rebooting with only the Mac OS items active in Extensions Manager and see if your problems persist.

I may have fixed my problem with a Firewire hub. I just got it today and so far it is working great.

I have a Ti PowerBook G4 400 with a Firewire 40 gig hard drive in a ClubMac enclosure, a Fujitsu Firewire 1.3 gig Magnetic Optical, a Que Firewire CD-RW burner and a Digital Firewire DV camera.

I will be adding a small 2.5 Firewire drive as soon as I get my new Travelstar 32gig hard drive. I'll be installing the 32gig in the PowerBook and the 10gig in the 2.5 enclosure.

I've had this problem with firewire for a long time. I believe I tried different cables many months ago, but I don't recall.
