I'm about to do a 'buy' - both 500GB external drives are within the same price range.

Newertech's ministack v2 has a built in USB hub, OWC doesn't.

Most important both are 7200 drives... but now I wonder about quality and reputation.
Which will last longer.

Will be getting back into iMovie project next year and Garageband which is why I want a 500gb.

Please let me know what you think.

I've shied away from the lacie just because I read too comments from users who said their Lacie drives crapped out suddenly - and added the company tech support is bad.

yep, i've not had any problems with my two lacie drives either (i hope i'm not tempting fate here)
but i've also heard a lot of people complain about them

however, i've also got two of those ministack enclosures under my mini - it's a cool enclosure that looks good with the mini - but there are two complaints i have. the first is minor, but the colour isn't /quite/ the same colour as the mini itself, which is a shame when you stack them together
and secondly, i'm finding the fans are REALLY loud. it's not a problem for me, as the mini is in teh lounge, hooked up to the tv and hifi, so the only time i would hear the fans are when i'm watching tv or listening to music, in which case the fan noise is downed out for the most part - but it would drive me nuts if i had them here in the office
