Grrrrr...
We have a Travan drive here at work, a 20 Gig Imation Firewire Travan to be specific, on a G4 tower. We use it for our Retrospect backup server. well, last week I popped a new tape in the drive (the last one was full), and Retrospect reported that the tape in the drive was had experienced a media failure. Shucks. A bad tape I thought.
So I put in another.
And another.
And then I put in my old tapes, the ones with all the backups on them.
All came up as media failures.
So I tried the Travan drive on a different computer. Same thing. So I bought the new Retrospect 5.0 and tried under OS X. same thing.
The problem: THIS IS TWICE IT HAS HAPPENED!!!!
Last summer I had the same problem, Travan shipped me another unit. I'm going to ask for another one tomorrow. Grrrr.
Are these things the biggest pieces of s**t out there, or is my experience unique?
