Hi folks,

I have been looking around for this info but haven't seen a post about it. I have a 500MHz PB G3 (Pismo) that I would like to attach a large external Firewire drive to edit video with. I am using a Sony DV camera to transfer the data back and forth. I am concerned mostly with cost but don't want to get a drive that will hamper transfer speeds.

I am confused because I have read that one needs a 7200 rpm drive to edit video and I have read others saying 5400 was fine.

Are there other considerations? Does anyone have a similar setup and have any suggestions? Any warnings to steer clear of ?

Thanks for any help!

Buy a case based on the new Oxford chipset from OWC - it'll give you much faster transfer speeds and is still only $139. Then buy an ATA 100 7200 drive - whatever price you can find - Maxtor, IBM whatever. The new bridge in the case in what's important for speed now. Do NOT buy a Lacie FW drive. The drive is incredibly loud. Check www.xlr8yourmac.com for more information.
