Hi there

can anyone help I have just bought an iomega zip drive so that I could transfer audio data from discs that recorded music mixed on a Roland BR8 multitracker - however my mac doesnt see any audio files on the discs when they're loaded ? is this because the disc maybe pc formatted?

many thanks

Macs can read PC-formatted Zip disks (or any kind of PC disk, really) just fine.

Does the disk show up on the desktop? Can you see the files at all?

If so, then it's not an issue of disk format, but file format. Since I have no idea what kind of files that device produces, I can't advise on what program to use to open it. It's also possible that no application can open them, if the files are device-specific/proprietary.

Hi there

yes the disk drive appears on the desktop and I can access files but nothing audio is showing up - as the original device that stored the data was recording audio I assumed that the audio would shown as wav files or something my mac could register as audio but it just sees blank files which no application can access?

many thanks

What files DO show up-particularly what are their extensions? .wav and .wmp are both common sound formats on PCs.

And how did the disks get the data on them anyway? Directly from the Roland (which one, by the way)? Through a PC? It kind of makes a BIG difference.

[edit] Have you tried dropping one of those files into QuickTime, or some audio program, to see if it can open them?
The next advice is to check what programs can open those files (PC even), and if only a PC can open them, then, do it and convert into a *readable* format that the Mac can hadle...
