Hello,

I broke down and got an iPod today. I never thought I would say this but this is the coolest machine ever! I thought other people were exaggerating a bit with their enthusiasm but now I know why.

vCards work great.

Cheers.
Have a nice day!

Congratulations! I haven't got one, but I have a friend who has, and it's the most beautiful machine in the world!

Sander, congrats on your new ipod. I use it in my car all the time. I can't remenber the last time i listened to the radio in my Jeep. By the way, do you know a good place in Montreal where I could get a case for my ipod. Living in the same neighborhood as you,( eastern townships), it will be time to go out and take long walks with spring at our door. Thanks!

Thanks willed and alauzon.

alauzon, it's good to find a fellow Montrealer (close enough)!

I don't think I will be buying a case for the iPod. To me, it's like putting a plastic cover over a couch. I think the best way to obtain one is to order one via internet.

Also, I mostly get my Mac stuff from the McGill University Computer Store (about 5% cheaper) so I don't really know many local stores.

Where do you buy your Mac stuff?

Cheers.
Have a nice day!

I might sound strange but I congradulate you on your new purchase. If I had the money to justify an iPod I would, but right now I have many other needs for $400 besides a device that plays music.

I just dream of running my hand across the dial and hearing the cool clicking sounds but of course, I havent even tried one yet

I guess it's like my G4 cube fantasy was

That's the point. It doesn't *just* play music. It's the coolest external FireWire drive around. At the moment my iPod contains the entire text of the book I'm writing. I just plug it into different Macs wherever I go and I can resume. And on the way, I can listen to my tunes ...

I totally agree.

Iv'e bought many things in my lifetime, most of them iv'e saved hard for and gotten good use out of, but I have to say that this little iPod is the best damn thing that ive ever owned.

Shame it doesn't come in platinum (not that i could afford it) because this little device deserves it.

Let's try to get an Eastern Townships/iPod/Cardiovascular health group organized.

I already qualify for 2 out of 3 and almost sprang for the IPOD (=BIG DRIVE) vs iPod (=small drive) this weekend. And obviously all are very good for you and represent a choice which will be obvious in some future tense.

But then again, it took me long time to jump from the relative security of an iMac DV 400 to a dual 800 G4 with 17" monitor.

Don't look back. They may be gaining on you.

But most likely, they took the wrong fork at the last intersection.

And i just paid off my credit card balance, so watch out Apple dealers.

I just got my iPod last week (5GB version) and I love it as well. I have done more rollerblading w/ it than I did last year. LOL, its just fun taking all those songs.
I put all my photos on it, just for fun...errr you know if the house burns down I grab the iPod!
I will, however, be getting a case for mine...I have ordered the postless sleeve from XtremeMac. I don't need to attach it to my belt just need something to protect it from all the crap in my pockets.

My fiancee gave one to me today on my birthday!
I love her! (and my iPod, too)

The iPod is an amazing device and with 10GB of storage it will last a lifetime to store my music!
Now all I have to get is an iMic to transfer my old MDs onto the iPod.

If I do get an ipod it'll be the 10gb one, a few bucks more for twice the space is a great deal.

Besides if I'm going to go I might as well go all out

I know it's a firewire drive that's one thing I love about it. i can imagine toting that little cool thing around.

I just got one a couple of days ago. I agree it is the best thing I have ever owned. Super design and very good sound. I use it at home, work and in the car. Plus it fits all my albums and contacts with room to back stuff up on. I wish I had picked one up earlier than I did. Still better late than never!!
Like me. Enjoy your iPOD!

I love my iPod as well. got it back in November (and it was hard to find!), and I have loved using it every day. It is the easiest way to back up my crucial data, and the best way to get myself pumped up in the gym everyday ("The Workout Mix").

Now if only it played video

Just got my 10 GB iPod on Saturday and love it. I got it at CompUSA so I could get the 2 year extended warranty for $30 and 6 months same as cash.

Anybody used a FM transmitter connection kit for your car or stero? I'm looking for one and want to know if anyone has a recommendation.

Thanks in advance.

The FM thing sucks. Bad quality, static, high-pitched whine. Yuck. I'm going to get a new CD player for my car with a tape deck and/or AUX jack.

There's the tape adapter for $13-20 which sounds decent if you crank up the iPod volume all the way up and the tape volume down.

Eastern Townships rules! Especially if you're from Sherbrooke! As for me, I don't know where I can buy a good iPod case nearby so I'll probably order this one:
http://www.marware.com/SportSuit-iPod-Final.html

It ain't cheap, but I think it's the best!

Congrats on the new iPod. It is the best gift I've made in a long time. It is so nice to not have to change a CD in my car. The only problem is the constant interruption of people asking "That's cool! What is that!?"

No idea. I don't even know what my options are since I have one of those larger-sized units. Whatever it is, it won't be that gawdy **** you see nowadays.

I am at Circuit City right now, (Free BroadBand) and they have two JVC decks with mini in, one plays cds and cdrw and the other plays MP3 Cds, there are also two Aiwias with mini in as well, the prices for the JVS are 179 and 225 respectivly, I still went for a tape deck, a nice Kenwood with 45x4 and some nice speakers

I LOVE iPod!
Got it today and I must say that it is an awesome piece of work!

Uploaded 5GB of songs and 600+ contacts, played the Break-out game, tried out all the features in half and hour!. Currently in charge-mode.

The UPS person is on his/her way to deliver the XtremeMac case... what a day...

I got my iPod sometime around January 15 and absolutely LOVED it. Close to Macworld Tokyo, though, I returned it, as I suspected Apple would change the lineup somehow. I was hoping for a lower price but obviously that did not happen. Now I must admit I really miss it, but at the moment cannot justify spending the 500 dollars on it. (I would jump right for the 10 GB model) But as soon as I can.... I will be ordering one.

I'll tell you just how it's transformed things....

I work out more than I did before I got it. I love the little
thing.

My wife and I just got back from a 5,000+ mile car trip. We had
a special input jack installed so we could plug both our pods into
the car stereo. We went across 8-states and didn't hear a song
more than once unless we wanted to.

I have about 1200 songs on mine, and she's got 800 on hers (she has
a lot of radio drama long tracks on hers). When we'd get to the
hotel at night, we'd both plug them into the little chargers to get
them charged up for the next days listening marathon. It was a twelve
day trip and between the two pods we had something like a week's worth
of continuous audio with no repeats.

We'd trade off driving duties and the pod of the moment was owned by
whoever was driving. It was great!

If my iPod was lost or stolen, I'd definetely buy another to replace
it. In fact, this device is just as revolutionary as the Sony Walkman
was back in '81 - I remember paying a lot of money for one then and
I've never been without one since. Now the iPod is the revolutionary.

I love my iPod too...

Bought it just before Xmas, but it was definitely worth the money. I listen to it every day while walking up to Campus and back, or while in the garden revising. It's great.

Only thing is I can't seem to find the breakout game since I upgraded to v1.1, so can't play that in lectures any more. I suppose I might pay more attention now though!

The cases from http://www.sfbags.com are by far the best, although I have the sleeve case which they no longer make. Fit's like a glove, and give's great protection.

Enjoy your iPods everyone.

i'm betting someone else has told you this,
but the breakout game is moved in 1.1 to "legal".
please return to paying no attention in class.

good luck.

Hold down the "retrun key" center button for about 7 seconds and you will get a game called Brick Out or Break Out, basicly a one person pong game, where you have to get the brick out buy hitting them with a ball you control a paddle yo direct the ball. very fun.
it gets insane once you get up to 3 balls going at the same time.

I think my high score was in the high 500s like 568 or somthing like that.

Great fun, try it out.

Yeah...I just bought an ipod last thursday as well. I got mine for 250$ though with a marware case no tax!

I am having one issue with it though. My ipod shows that it has 2.96 gigs used on it but my library says I only have 2.94 gigs of music. What's going on with my phantom 20 megs?

thanks for any help on this, everyone.

I just got my 10 GB iPod from a retail store today...love it! Although I've not even had a chance to copy my 9-something GB of music onto it, I can tell I'm going to really like the thing. Especially with the ability to store Contacts, and also with the software avilable now to let you store notes and such on it.
