i have a qps 12x firewire cd-rw that bit the dust this week. i'm wondering if anyone's had success replacing the drive mechanism inside the enclosure. i tried using a 24x yamaha cdr, but it just wasn't recognized. is it possible that the bridge chipset is for plextor cdrs only (which is the drive that was in there before). any help would be much appreciated.

you can always get your own enclosure for that yamaha. but to your questions I don't know the answer.

yes, i know i can get an enclosure... but what i'm wondering is if i can use the existing qps enclosure and put in a drive other than a plextor.
