I'm gonna buy the new TiPowerBook 500 and because of it's 1 FireWire port I was wondering if it's wise to use a FireWire hub? would it work well...? I want to use it for connecting a Hard Drive and a Sony PC100 digital camera.

Thank in advance :-)

Kia.

I have not heard anything about dropped frames.

You can connect up to 63 devices with FireWire. But you shouldn't try that many.

I would only do a couple of devices with FireWire daisy chain.

Any other questions?

I have experienced problems when daisy chaining firewire devices. I ordered a firewire hub, and hopefully that will fix the problem.

The firewire hard drive is the first device in the chain it doesn't have any problems, when my firewire hard drive is at the end fo the chain, it goes through 10 second pauses after it copies several megs from the internal hard drive to the firewire drive.

When my CD-RW was at the end, it would stop writing in the middle of a cd. So I have to keep the CD-RW as the first device in the chain, and the firewire hard drive at the end.

I found a good deal for the firewire hub at www.buy.com .

As soon as I test it, I'll let you know the results.

I have burned CD's and captured video from the same FireWire port simultaneously. The 2nd port had my DV camera sending the DV stream to the computer, which then stored the file on a FireWire hard disk. No errors, dropped frames or audio distortion at all.
