Really weird problem guys. Never happened to me before and I'd appreciate any help.

When I tried to start up Apple DVD Player in 9.1 today, I got this message

"Apple DVD Player cannot open because the required hardware was not found.

If you have another application open that uses sound or video, quit that application and start Apple DVD Player again. If you are using a Powerbook that requires a DVD-Video PC card, make sure the PC card is properly installed in the appropriate slot. (21)"

Weird... I've been able to play DVDs on this computer before and so I don't understand what is wrong. The error message made this sound like a hardware problem so that is why I posted it here. The Mods can move it if they feel differently. Here is my setup:

PM G4 533/DP
OS 9.1
RAM 384 MB
Video card: Radeon

I've read the Apple TILs on this and followed their instructions, but nothing has worked. Help!

try uninstalling your dvd player and then reinstalling it. ya never know

You hit the nail on the head Cipher. For some reason I seem to have DVD Player 1.3. Weird. I performed a clean system installation today (long story there), and it looks like the 9.1 CD downgraded my version from 2.5. Wild. Huh. Don't know why that happened.

I'm trying to install the upgraded version. Having CD trouble though. The OS 9 CD doesn't seem to see that I'm running 9.1. Seems to think I'm running something BELOW 9.1 *frustration*

Installed DVD Player 2.5 again. That was the problem. Works like a dream now. You're a prince Cipher. Thanx again for the aid.
