Seriously, turn it upside down.
No joke.

Yeah, use good CD-R's. I like Verbatims. The PSX has a very weak laser.

here's the lowdown(hold on i gotta light up a smoke)....ok,(exhale). i actually am not very educated on the whole modchip burn thing. my computer is 5 years old has no burner and was a gift from my sister. anyways, a friend gave me his psone with a modchip in it today as a gift. he also gave me final fantasy 8 burned on a memorex cdr. at first, it popped up the "insert a playstation format disc" crap but after about 3 times it worked fine. now it works everytime. later he gave me final fantasy tactics on a no name cdr (it doesn't have a name on it) and again, "please insert a playstation format disc" crap. what's the deal? i have heard from many sources that verbatim works the best, but right now i'm stuck and pissed. pleaseANYONE.give me a hand.

The CD is a cheap one, and the PSX's weak laser can't read it.
Clean the laser, clean the CD.

Does the boot-trick work with PSOnes?

Just clean it with a dab of cleaning alcohol and a soft cloth, like you'd clean the heads of a VCR but gentler.

The boot trick... I'll see if it works on a PSone

I added a mod chip to my PSX long time ago, seems to work fine but I did read something about sony putting xtra coding on the discs so that if the comsole/disc does not give the right responce the PSX will not play the game etc.

Also I 'chipped' a large number of PSX for friends and each chip behaves differently.

On the 14th Oct 1999 I saw the light !! and got a dreamcast, so if you know any one who wants an old aged PSX !!

You do know that Mod chips are no longer necessary right? Toast 5 can burn PSX cds direct. No need for a mod chip. I admit that I have not tried this, but I am shocked that no one else seems to think this is a big deal. This was originally announced on maccentral weeks ago.

Really? It can burn them without a chip needed? No way... that doesn't work does it? It can't... the errors on the disk weren't the problem... that was gotten around with CD Copy anyway - its something more...

Toast can do that?!
Wow gonna try that at once!

found it here! http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0103/15.toast.shtml

»
"It'll also do a bit for bit, or raw mode, copy of any CD," said Nemechek, enabling users to produce backups of CDs that older versions of Toast may previous have balked at. Nemechek cited PlayStation CD-ROMs and karaoke CDs as two examples of discs that can be duplicated using Toast 5 Titanium's raw mode copying feature.
