Have an external LaCie FW 80 GB drive on an iMac 600 MHz G3 running OS 9.2.1

When writing some (not all) files to FW drive, get error type -412. Error occurs with graphic files -- .jpg and .psd (Photoshop). If trying to write a folder, the folder copies, but the first image file gives an error type -412. Tried starting with extensions off -- FW drive mounts but same error on copy.

Tried starting with LaCie extension (latest version) only (no Apple FW extensions), external drive won't mount.

Doesn't have to do with file size; large movie files copy to FW drive just fine. Small text files copy fine. HTML files copy fine. Some .jpg files copy fine, but not others.

Tried moving the same FW drive to an Apple G4 laptop -- no write errors!

FW drive is about 57% full. Heard about someone else encountering a problem with an external Maxtor 80 GB drive at about the same point.

Don't think it's drivers -- everything is up to date, and many files copy. Think it's a weird software conflict (not an extension conflict, as the error occurs with extensions off).

Any thoughts?? What IS an error type -412? LaCie Tech Support says it's not listed.

Thanks in advance.
