Well you have two problems. Video quality is subjective; one man's trash is another man's treasure. Also, video quality is as much about DEcoding as ENcoding, so it will depend to some extent on how your device performs at decoding the various formats. You could find a forum about that device to get at problem 2, but you might as well do things up right and find a DVD in your collection with a relatively short scene that has good combinations of light/dark, action/still, etc, and make a few different kinds of encodings, at different bitrates, and watch them on your thingy. It shouldn't be too hard to tell for yourself. And take heart in knowing there's basically no wrong decision; all modern video encoders are pretty much equivalent, especially if you're just interested in watching the video, not in meta-features like whether the codec is open-source.
