I have a VST (red & yellow slim) FireWire drive that I connect to my PowerBook and G4 towers. It runs off of the FW power since I didn't buy the external power supply.

Is it wise to leave the drive connected even though I wont be accessing for some time. Should I unmount it when i'm not using it?

Let's assume for a moment that you are not going to be using the drive because it is acting as a temporary archiev of a project and you don't have a use for it currently. Then I would suggest that you disconnect it so the disk isn't spinning. Because a drive is a moving part, the less it moves the longer it will work for you.

Thank you and common sense (do i have any?) would direct to me disconnect the drive for that very reason. But just wanted to know if it was recommended. I'll follow your suggestion however, better safe than sorry.
