running a NEC MultiSync XE21 on a G3 450 with a Rage 128 pro (16mb)

I just installed OS 9.1 and Now the two highest resolutions are 1024X768 @ 75Hz and 1280 X 1024 @ 60hz (there where better options before)

this is using "Monitor Control Panel" via the OS 9.1

I have a second Monitor running off an ATI VR 4MB card... it has a lot of resolutions and can go much higher... the monitor connected is a NEC MultiSync A700

Now the 21" is now set at 1024 X 768 @75hz... and I see a dark spot in the lower left corner. There was a speaker there but it's an Altec Lansing shielded speaker... last but not least; I can see the refresh even at 75Hz!

is my monitor going bad or is it 9.1? is this all just a big coincidence?
