Please point me to a FAQ or prior thread if this has been asked a thousand times..

I borrowed a friend's Epson scanner a while back and used it with my Intel iMac. It worked fine. Now another friend has given me her Epson 1670 scanner (different model) and it will not work. I ran the install from the CD, and when I launch Epson Scan, I get "Epson Scan cannot be started. Please use the troubleshooting assistant.... "

What do I need to do here? Any help would be most appreciated.

Ok progress - I downloaded the latest driver from Epson's site. And it launches ok - but aborts saying it cannot communicate with the scanner.

It is connected via a USB cable. And if I restart the system, the scanner motors runs briefly during the boot-up. Do I need to UN-install the old stuff that I installed the other day from this old CD? And if so - how do I do that?

Ok I dragged all my "Epson" files to the trash to uninstall... however there is one called "Epson Scanner Monitor" that the system will not allow me to delete because it says it is in use. Even if I unplug the scanner and restart, it says this.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Having an identical problem -- did you ever fix it?

edit: actually not identical -- the latest installer appears to run just fine, but does not fix the error
