Best speaker system for under $150?

What is the best speaker system for a G4? Are soundsticks worth the price? What about Monsoon's flat speakers? Would a $79 Altec system be just as good? Would a normal person be able to tell the difference?
Opinions? Rants?

Get the Monsoon M-1000 for $149. It's the best complement to my Lombard!

I had a set of Cambridge SoundWorks for a while. They are VERY nice, and you should be able to get them for under $100 now (I think I paid almost $200 a few years back).

I have never ever heard a better sounding set of computer speakers than the monsoon speakers. Excellent bass, midtones, and can get VERY VERY loud if you wish I have had the house shaking at 1/2 volume!

The Mac Information Depot. Why go anywhere else?

Go with Monsoon. I tested almost every brand available prior to buying mine. Simply stated, nothing compares.

Thanks for the glowing reviews of the Monsoon speakers. I used the $30 off $150 coupon from DealNN's current page, and I ordered the MM1000 for $120 (plus $15 shipping) from Buy.com. I'll let you know what I think when I get them.

If you are really interested in the best quality sound, you might want to wait for the Soundblaser Live! card coming for the Mac.
Once you have that, you can pair it with something like the FPS2000 speakers. 4 satellites and a sub, all digital signal from the soundcard. Everything else out there is analog.
The Soundblaster was supposed to be out at MacWorld, but apparently they decided to hold it. It appears in part because Apple doesn't have finished audio spec for OS X, and Creative really wants their card to be forward compatible.
