Hi,

I have been using my firewiredirect.com spark II 20gig hard drive for a number of months now with no problems. All of a sudden the other day it refused to mount. I used the disk utility, it found an error and said that it corrected the problem. I then unplugged the drive, reconnected it and the system hung. It would hang until I unplugged the drive. Same thing happens on my Pismo. Any suggestions???

Thanks.

OS X (and 9 to some extent) seems to have problems with FW HDs. Running disk warrior on them has repaired my drives even when they’ve failed to mount.

The tricky part is that if you plug in the drive, the finder tells you that it is unreadable and you have to eject or initialize it, or the computer hangs as you mentioned. So I’ve found a work-around to get it to show up. I launch Norton disk doctor, and then plug the drive in. The finder won’t attempt to mount the drive, and it should show up in NDD’s window. You can quit NDD and launch diskwarrior, and it should show up in the list of drives.
