Hey, I currently have a G4 Sawtooth running OS X with a DVD-RAM drive. Currently I am trying to add CD-R/RW to my machine. The simplest option is to just get an external CD-RW, but I'd prefer an internal device to replace my DVD-RAM, and still read DVDs. The only combo drive I've found is the Addonics Mobile DVD/CDRW combo. Addonics says only the USB version of this drive is supported under Mac. Is this accurate, or does OS X have buillt-in support for this drive? Furthermore, would this drive still be compatible if I rip it from its case and install it internally? Are there any other OS X combo drives out there? Finally, if I just can't get an internal combo, which CD-R do you reccomend: the LaCie 8x4x24 Pocket FireWire Portable CD-RW or the SmartDisk VST Portable 8x CD-RW FireWire Drive? Thanks,

Kev

huh? Your post reads really weird. For CD-RW internal, settle for nothing less than 24x10x40 or 32x10x40. There are now 40x12x40 available in an internal configuration.

and I'm pretty sure you can get external and internal DVD-ROM/CD-RW, and probably DVD-RAM-CD-RW, though at what price I don't know.

Check Apple's site and their listings. Made-4-Mac

I got the rioch burner 12 speed internal. The advantage is that it is burn proof and not that many DVD / CDRW's are burnprrof. When I bought mine Ricoh where basically the only brand with a burnproof DVD/CDRW.

The 12x cannot boot off OS 9 disks.
It can boot off OS X disks.

It can burn in toast under X fine. After installing Toast X Disk burner in the finder works. iTunes does not at the moment but I am looking for a hack.

I would look at the hardware reviews at XLR8 Your Mac before making any choice though.

Cheers Edd

For everyone who is looking for an awesome Internal CD-RW/DVD Combo Unit, look no further than you local Best Buy. LG Electronics makes it it's called the GCC-4120B. It records at 12X, rewrites at 8X, reads at 32X and reads DVDs at 8X. Everything, including iTunes (with a modified deviceplugin). Best of all it's 129.99 with a mail in rebate. Here is the link for the itunes plugin http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/action.lasso?-dat abase=faq.fp3&-layout=FaqList&-response=answer.faq.lasso&-recordID=33770&-search
enjoy!

oh btw it works with both OS 9 and X, and boots fine too
