hey,

we are in need of a new scanner. our old one is starting to develop verticle lines on the scans.

our scanner needs to be able to do the following things:

4x6 chromes
35mm slides
35mm negatives
flat artwork (magazines and the like)

it would be nice if came with color profiles so that I don't spend too much time with the lightbox adjusting the color to match.

It's been awhile since I or the company has bought a high end scanner, so we are even at a loss for the best brand. The one we have now is Umax, but maybe Microtech or someone else is better?

I'd appreciate any opinions and/or links to scanner reviews that you can provide.

Hi Neil. I'm wondering how much money you guys want to shell out? My HP cost me about 250 dollars and will do most of that but on a consumer level. My experiences have been good with HP, Epson and Canon.

I've heard very good things about the higher end Canon machines. Very fast and excellent res.

Can some good person explain how to use 35mm negatives with
a scanner?

Do I get digital photographs, that I can print?

I am refering to the HP 4470c scanner :

I guess I should ask if anyone has used this scanner, or the 5470c?

I believe I saw the 4470c in the store for $299 Australian. I'm guessing the 5470c will be a couple of hundred more.

I do, however, have lots of negatives, and my brother has lots of slides, so it may well be worth it- assuming it does what I think it does.

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion - Steven Weinberg.
