Has anyone tried swapping out, say the 8x drive with a 12x drive in the QPS enclosure? In addition to completely voiding your warranty, will Toast allow you to burn at 12x or is that kind of sense information stored somewhere in the IDE-Firewire bridge firmware?

And an even more adventurous question: Would the bridge still work with an IDE hard drive?

I don't see why it wouldn't work - I have a Que USB drive - I yanked the drive out of the enclosure and have thrown in a hard drive and another CDROM at different times without a problem.

There shouldn't be anything limiting in the bridge - at least with the USB model, give me about $10.00 in parts from RadioShack and I could probably duplicate it. Nothing fancy.
