Ipod problem with selecting language everytime...

I was wonderng if anyone else is having this problem with their Ipod
It seems I have to select the language and backlight timer everytime I disconnect the Firewire from the Computer. Not a big deal but somewhat annoying and want to know if anyone else is experienceing this. I am using a Blue and White G3.
