I know this has been posted before, but everything that comes up under my search of previous posts are either expired or for full-size ide drives. I have a 20gig HD from my old Powerbook which I need to put in an external case. Any suggestions!?

check out the momobay CX-1 from DVico. it's billed as the smallest firewire case on the market (see the picture of one beside an ipod) and it comes with both USB and firewire ports.

The 2.5 at APdrives.com is the clearvue or CV case. I just got a sweet deal on one from caldrives.com (with 30 GB Travelstar). Speed is awesome and it looks very cool. Also very well-built.

I believe you can get them cheaply from fwdepot.com

I like the momobay, but I have heard that it uses a Texas Instruments chipset instead of the very common Oxofrd911.

How are experiences with this chipset?

Does it need drivers under OS 9.2 and X?

Is the HD bootable und OS 9.2 and X?

Thanks

Felix

it does use a TI chipset, but i don't think this should affect performance since you won't be 7200 RPM drive in it anyway.

regarding drivers, it doesn't need anything to mount under either OS 9.2 or OS 10.2, although there is a CD supplied for OS 9. it's also bootable under OS X, but i can't comment on whether it's bootable under OS 9 since i haven't installed that on mine.

What Filesystem do you use?

Equipped with USB this is the perfect drive to exchange data between WIN and MAC, isn't it?

i use HFS+ for both OS 9 and OS X. i don't often need to transfer files to window systems so i don't use any other file systems, but you're right that the size of the case with its firewire and USB ports do make it an attractive way to exchange files between different systems.
