I ran out of space on my iPod, so I decided to remove some play lists from the update list. After doing this iTunes started to update it, but then froze. I forced quit it, and tried to drag the iPod to the trash, but the Finder was screwed up, too. I couldn't do anything in it. Finally, I unplugged iPod and the Finder came back to life and told me the device just removed was not put away properly. Now the iPod is frozen with the Firewire icon on its screen even though it is not connected. I can hear its drive spinning. How can I get it out of this mode?

hold menu and play buttons at the same time to reset the ipod. or just plug it back into your mac. always put the ipod icon on the trash before you try to disconnect.

Thanks. I figured it out just before you posted. I usually drag the icon to the trash, but couldn't because of iTunes and the Finder crashing. The Finder wouldn't relaunch until I unplugged the iPod. I think the cause of the problem might have been trying to connect the iPod by chaining it through an external Firewire drive.
