I recently bought an HP Photosmart A510 printer (because it was cheap ($43) and photos are excellent). It works perfectly in Windows but not in OS X (10.4.8). It comes with the drivers and software and if I print from Photoshop it sees the printer, starts to print and then hangs just before any ink goes on the paper. Anyone have any of the small photo printers like this working (e.g. A610, etc.)?

I got it working with a little fooling--the problem seems to be with the Universal Binary on my new Intel iMac. I loaded the software on my Quicksilver (10.4.7) and it ran the printer perfectly. But there was no way it was going to work on the iMac. So, I uninstalled the software and then copied the installed software from the QS into the applications folder on the iMac. It works perfectly now--thus avoiding the HP installer altogether and, I assume, Universal Binary. A trick others might find useful. It is a great printer at an astounding price.

BTW, this printer is really good for printing labels. You wouldn't want to do it often because you're using up your color ink to make black text. But one label would use only a tiny fraction of the ink of a photo. It just saves having to change the setup of a laser printer just for one label. Just push the label in the top of the little printer and print.
