I have an old (8+ years) Microtek 600ZS Scanner that I want to use with my new IMac DV SE+... Problem is, Microtek sez the software won't work past Mac OS 7.6 or Photoshop 4.0... (I have Mac OS 9.0.4 and Photoshop 5.5). I recently bought an Entrega SCSI to USB cable converter (against the dire predictions of my coworkers), hoping that I'd get the two to "do the dirty dance" and let me have my way. Unfortunately, when I connected the converter, I immediately got a warning/error dialogue box stating that the port into which I plugged said item didn't have enough power, and that I should try another port. Despite Microtek's assertions, I have software that actually WANTS to work, as it attempts to send a scan signal to the scanner, only to erupt into a somewhat nasty "SCSI protocol error" response. I paid a small fortune for the scanner (yeah, I know, almost 10 years ago!!) and there's nothing wrong with it from the hardware point of view. I just was hoping I could get some software that would enable me to further utilize it for a few more moons or so... Any suggestions? Do I need a USB hub to "boost" the signal? Would I be better off by getting a SCSI to Firewire cable converter? Am I simply asking for too much? Any input into this matter would be appreciated, as I have spent about 10 hours so far in getting frustrated by the "wanna' work but just won't quite cut it" cable converter. I believe the problem is a power supply one in nature, but I'm not altogether convinced that it isn't software related. If anyone, I repeat, ANYONE out there has a similar success/failure story, I'd be very grateful to hear about it...
Thanks in advance for your input...

There is nothing more finicky than a scanner on a SCSI bus. They used weird timings - didn't like certain terminations, much SCSI voodoo.

I would be very suprised if you ever got stable function with the combination of outdated software drivers and a converter from SCSI to USB.

Either buy a new scanner, or buy yourself an old mac that will still work with this scanner and network the two computers together. Advantage - you continue to work while the scanner scans...
