I'm trying to decide between Miglia's TVMax and Elgato's EyeTV 250, but I can't find anything about TVMax's latency when playing games. EyeTV 250 claims to have zero latency, but users say that they still notice a lag when actually playing... Does anyone have any experience with hooking up a game console to either of these two (I have a PS2 at this moment)?

Hi,

The answer is that EyeTV 250 is appropriate for game systems, and TVMax is not.

The hardware encoder in EyeTV 250 can be disabled, which eliminates the latency, but as a trade-off increases CPU load.

The hardware encoder in TVMax cannot be disabled, making it unsuitable for games because the latency will be about 1 second.

The advantage to a TVMax is having the inputs mounted on the device rather than on a break-out cable and having the ability to encode DivX and MPEG-4, which EyeTV 250 lacks. Neither of those help you with respect to video game systems.

Hmmm... thanks! Not the answer I was hoping for, but that's not your fault ! I like the MP4 encoding possibilities of the TVMax, and, indeed, the box mounted inputs, but I guess I'll have to settle for the EyeTV 250...
