my brother is using a rev a ibook & his hard disk is getting v. cramped, what options does he have to increase hard disk space?

is it possible to upgrade the internal hard disk or could someone recommend a usb hard disk?

I personally think he should just bite the bullet & upgrade to a new ibook - i did and its superb...

Before upgrading, I'd suggest cleaning out everything unnecessary on the harddrive. I just did this last night on my rev A iBook, and cleared up a couple hundred megabytes. Delete any old/unnecessary apps. If you use OS X, clean out the Classic System Folder. And also if you use OS X, log in as "root", open Sherlock and do a search for "lproj". Unless you need/want other languages, you can delete everything that isn't "English.lproj".

If all that doesn't help there are a couple of web sites that will guide you through upgrading your hard drive:

And if he doesn't want to do the upgrade himself (its not *too* bad... I've done it twice myself):

http://store.powerbook1.com/ibhardrivup.html

Their prices are a bit high, considering you can get a 20GB drive for $100 shipped, but they'll do everything for you, including transfering your old data to your new drive.

USB drives are also a decent solution (I have a 6GB VST USB slim drive) if you accept the fact that they are pretty slow... not really good for running applications from but good enough for archiving and storing data files. Hope this helps.

Cheers!
Chris
