I'm running OS 8.1 on my 9600.
My Deskwriter 600 won't work anymore.
I downloaded HP's latest driver but...

"serial port in use" is the message I get.
Nothing prints. I can't even print a test page.

Your help is GREAT appreciated.
Thanks.

Revert to the older driver. Apple has been monkeying around with its serial stuff lately, up to and including the switch to USB, so if the older driver works, use it.

I use DW600 from a Pismo, which means I have to use a serial/USB converter, and I'm running driver version 7.2.5, which is way old. I tried several ways to get the latest driver, without much success, so I finally decided that, if my old driver works, why worry.

Look in your Extensions Manager for something called "Serial Port Arbitrator". If that is there turn it off, restart, and try again. I've had that work for me before.

Make sure you don't have any port-controlling software. I just fixed the same problem for a friend who had a bad copy of Faxstf on his system that would take command of his printer port.
