I've got a pioneer 110D in a Gateway that I have been using for DVD burning, but the software (Nero) is awful. I also have a Mini (1.66 core duo/2 GB RAM/superdrive) and Popcorn, which I like, but the superdrive in the Mini is so slow. It takes ~23 minutes to burn 2 hours of video, where the pioneer only takes about 6 minutes. I'm considering buying an external enclosure for the pioneer drive so I can burn at 16x with the Mini. However, its hard to find external optical drive enclosures that don't include the drive itself.

Has anyone found a good external optical drive enclosure out there? and how's the speed with these firewire/USB 2.0 drives? Will I be able to burn at 16x or is this a waste of time?

thanks fellas.

OWC makes a decent enclosure, they all use Oxford chipsets.

Any 5.25" enclosure will work, there's nothing special about optical drives... USB 2.0 speed is great for me, I burn at 16x with my -111D.

Any of the enclosures on this page will work. Pick whichever enclosure you like the price and look of.
