ok, I got a FW enclosure @ MacWorld SF

worked like a charm... infact I put a couple of different 3.5" drives in if for the hack of it... and settled with a 60 gig I had laying around (7200)...

well I set up an old system with hotline and put in a firewire card

system:

7500 w/400Mhz card 135 ram a 1 gig scsi drive...

so everything was going great... then I got a system freeze while I was reviewing a movie... restarted and bam... now my system freezes when the firewire drive is plugged in (very end of the boot sequence)

I can't get my dual ibook to see it... and the VST firewire utility didn't see it either...

do you guys have any advise or know of any utilities that can help me?

have you done anything like update the operating system or install/remove any apps or their extensions?

also, what version of mac os are you using? 9.1, 9.2.x, OS X (10.0 or 10.1.x), ...?

you should run disk first aid to check your disk (both the firewire and your internal drive) for errors. If you have norton disk doctor or some other drive utility, running that to check for problems is a good idea.

I'm running 9.1... apples disk utilities don't see it... and the VST firewire utilities that came with my little portable drive freezes the system when I try to use it...

it's more oblem with my drive/enclosure than system... it does the same thing with my ibook...

I think the enclosure dided... I tried to reseat it last night... to night I'm going to put a PCI ide card in the 7500 and see if my drive comes up...

I knew that enclosure was too good a deal
