I own an iMac/266 with OS 9.0.4, 160 MB RAM, and am running VPC 3.03 w/Win98SE. I recently bought an Imation SuperDisk USB Drive (one of the newer "22x" drives). Both OS's have the most recent drivers for the SuperDrive. I am having problems with Windows reading & writing files to the disk (1.44 floppy).
Here is an example of the problems I have:
Format a disk on a real PC/Win95
Write a file to it.
Insert that disk into my Mac/VPC/Win98.
Win98/VPC finds it and the file without problem.
In Win98/VPC, write a 2nd file to the disk. Win98 sees both files.
Eject the disk.
Re-insert the disk. Win98/VPC sees NONE of the files.
From this point on, Win98/VPC sees none of the files.
MacOS sees only the files that were on the disk prior
to Win98/VPC writing any files to it. Same with a real
PC. No files written by Win98/VPC are seen by either
machine.
Essentially, once Win98/VPC writes a file to the disk, it will never again see any files on that disk. Any files that Win98/VPC writes to disk are also not seen on any other computer. Also, it seems that once MacOS mounts the disk, Win98/VPC won't read see any files either. (I have tried various combinations of steps. What I have listed above is the most typical, and illustrates the general problem.) Lastly, I cannot format a disk within Win98/VPC, as this will lock up Win98.
Does anyone know of known issues with using the Imation SuperDisk Drive and Windows 98 under VirtualPC? Any help would be appreciated!
