Bought an MX-1000 soon after they appeared locally after never having paid more than $50 for a mouse prior, and only tried it because there was a $30 mail-in rebate at the time.

Greatest mouse i've ever used for comfort, quick recharge, and lots of handy buttons.

From the beginning there were only two minor annoyances with the MX-1000:

#1 Even new, the wheel had a rather loose feel and seemed like they couldn't decide whether it should click or not. The clicks are too light for my liking.

#2 I experienced some slight wobbling of the pointer despite all the claims of accuracy.

I assumed something similar would come along, only more refined, but i've not found any mice by any manufacturer with the same level of comfort and so many easy to reach buttons.

Instead of Logitech's software, i always use USB Overdrive and i've gotten addicted to having the 8 buttons (counting the wheel: 10 if you count the side-to-side wheel clicks) to do whatever's most handy for me in whatever app i'm using.

Locally the MX-1000 seems to be disappearing from stores and it's cost has dropped very little. ($79 now as opposed to $83 when i first saw it). On the net, a few have it for around $60.

Comparatively, Microsoft's aren't as comfortable in the hand as Logitech, and none have the side (thumb) buttons in the right position.

Anyone know a good replacement for the MX-1000 for someone who likes lots of buttons in easy reach, wireless, rechargeable, and with little lag and high accuracy?

If i could find one with all those goodies i wouldn't mind paying up to $100.

Logitech's new MX Revolution is very nice. Battery life isn't as good as it is with the MX1000, but I much prefer the mouse. The wheel is brilliant, too. It'd be hard to go back to a normal scrollwheel.

Have a google for reviews and see if it sounds like something you'd be interested in. USB overdrive works with it too, from what I've heard.

I've done quite a bit of both googling and strolling through local stores giving the mice a hand-feel test.

The MX Revolution looks and feels very good, in addition to getting good reviews, but i would be paying twice what i've paid for any other mouse and though it retails for about $80, the MX-1000 started getting a little wonky after less than a year.

Wondered if there were any other companies making anything nice, or if any other Logitech models stand out. The best microslough mice aren't half as comfortable.

How's the wheel action with OS X?? I'm sure things are great with Windows (where Logitech spends most of its R&D), but how well does it work with OS X? How is the new version of the Logitech software? High-speed inertia scroll vs. click-to-scroll line by line? How about that thumb wheel? What's its supposed to do anyway?

The wheel's excellent when it auto-switches as it should. Sometimes I need to click it to get it to swap. It's a bit of a pain and something I'm hoping will be fixed in the next version of SetPoint, though it's by no means enough of a pain to get me looking at alternatives.

I've got the thumb wheel set to zoom (and use it mainly to adjust text size in browsers).

Other mice feel lacking now, put it that way
