I am looking output sound digitally to my stereo, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of products. Although not as important if price gets in the way, I wouldn't mind digital in as well. I can use both optical or coaxial toslink cables, so that is not an issue. I know there are cheap ($40) daughtercards for PCs that do this, but I haven't heard of any that have mac drivers. I know there are, however, professional cards that do this. I would also think that with USB an inexpenisve device could be made. Does anyone have any suggestions, whether it be PCI or USB, consumer or professional? Thanks.

PCI cards like the Emagic AudioWerk2 is fairly cheap and good quality, so should do what you require. But to be honest, USB is utter poop for Audio use. So stick with a PCI card instead.

Thanks for your response. I can't seem to find anywhere (online) that sells the card, which by the way seems to be a perfect solution, I could use RCA in/out too. Do you know where I can find it (and how much?).
An important thing is, can it be used for all of MacOS's sound in/out, or only the software that comes with it? Number one use here is playing mp3s on my stereo.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Thanks again.

A friend found the card in a music store for $249. Does anyone know of a cheaper place, or a cheaper solution?
