I just got a used PowerMac 7200 with no CD-ROM drive. Is there a compatibility list available on the web somewhere of non-Apple SCSI CD-ROM drives that are Mac OS bootable? I know that the Apple CD-ROM driver can be hacked to recognize virtually any SCSI CD-ROM device, but I'm interested in a cheap drive that can boot the OS as well. Any ideas, or is Apple my only choice?

You can force a Mac to boot off a different drive than the default boot drive by holding down COMMAND-OPTION-SHIFT-DELETE all at once at startup.

This will work for CD-ROM drives as well.
