I recommend against a 1TB drive. Unless you have a very specific need for exactly 1 TB, you're much better off with a 0.75TB drive. The 1TB externals are all 2 drives joined together to form one large volume, giving you twice the chance of a drive failure. The controller used to join them may also become faulty, corrupting your data.

I'd go with a 750GB Seagate drive and a USB2/FW400 external enclosure.

if so what companies have the 750gb enclosed in an external?

also if i go with 750 gb drive costing $457.97
and a case roughly $50 im paying $500

for that price if i pay $40 extra i can get 1000gb....

Actually, it's the same price per GB as the cheapest of the 1TB drives ($0.53/GB).

Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB 3.5" IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM - $350
Add $50 for an enclosure and you're at $400, not $500.
