I know the 400GB drives that western digital made had some issues with the G5's using the built in SATA bus, but were ok on SATA PCI cards. Anyone know if these issues were fixed with the WD5000KS? (the 500GB version). I'd like to boot off this drive using the internal SATA bus.

I just ordered one to replace my too small 250GB boot drive, want to be sure there are no issues before it's too late to cancel. I can't seem to find any indication either way on the web about it.

Rev A Quad G5, 4.5GB RAM, Apple Stock 250 on one of the internal SATA buses, (boot). Also a Sonnet E4i PCIe 4 port SATA card driving 2 Raptor 74GB's in a RAID-0 and a single 150 GB Raptor. (G5Jam internal Bracket) Also a slew of external Firewire drives.

I just installed one of those in my G5 (first gen 2.0) however its connected to my Sonnet SATA 4X Tempo (card, dont know which model) buts its a 3gbs card.

Works without a problem, however I'm not booting off of it either.

Thanks for the quick response. Sadly you can't boot off the Sonnet E4i card, so I'm kinda stuck. Do I dare stick it in a firewire800 external case and boot off that? Alas the G5's since the beginning have had terrible FW800 write speeds for some reason. I actually have a PCIe FW800 card that I could boot off of I guess, but for speed SATA is the way to go....

I have one of these in my (Intel-based) Mac Pro as one of three internal drives (300GB Maxtor in bay 1, stock WD2500JS 250GB in bay 2, and the WD5000KS in bay 3).

No problems here, but then again there are probably significant differences in the controller subsystem between the G5s and the Mac Pros.
