I have a 19" LCD monitor connected to my PC. Since I rarely use my PC nowadays, I'd like to connect it to my notebook. My question is: The LCD monitor is not widescreen but my notebook is. Is there anything I have to setup in order to get the correct corresponding resolutions for each screen?

Nope, OS X auto senses the native resolution of the screen, assuming your notebook can span screens (powerbooks and intel macs, and iBooks with the screenspanning hack).
