Eventually I have to buy a CD Burner. For me, now is not the best time, but at the same time it's not out of the question. A local shop is having a clearance sale and the Yamaha 16x 10x 40x FireWire Ext is down to AU$359 (approx. US$185, £125). Actually when I put it into pounds, it DEFINITELY seems like a bargain. Errr... so I just want some sort of confirmation like "yeah f**k go for it man - that's well cheap"...

it is, isn't it? are they suddenly going to get cheaper anyway because of some sort of technology I don't know about? I hate it when that happens.

thanks.

ack

above is what I read in their newpaper ad... looking at the site to see what they have left I see no Yamaha drive... just a Formac 16x 10x 40x FireWire for $487 (approx. US$250)... suddenly not such a great deal. However, I am now worked myself into a state of semi-excitement that I was going to be getting myself a brand new fast drive tomorrow. So is THIS a good deal... is the Yamaha much better?

heh. maybe they DO have the Yamaha, but if not... $487 is a lot more than $359 (the $487 is inclusive of GST, the $359 is probably exclusive)...

so... advice?

I don't know about what's available in Austrailia, but in the US, MacWarehouse has a LaCie 24x10x40x FireWire drive for $239. LaCie has always been a respected name. That's the one I'm looking into.
