Have a friend that wants to travel for a while and create movies of his adventures. I tried to explain to him about the superior nature of movie creation on a Mac. So, I was wondering. Can someone recommend a good low to mid priced DV Camcorder and thoughts on using an iBook or Powerbook to rip DV Videos. I think that he is going to be surprised to get and iBook, iDVD and a camcorder for under $2000.

I like the Canon ZR25 for $799 which is a MiniDV camcorder that also uses Multimedia Cards for storing stills. There are other Canon's and Sony's to choose from (some of the Sonys have memory stick for stills too). You may want to check www.2-pop.com for more reviews on Cameras.

iDVD doesn't come with the iBook, only G4's that have a Superdrive. You probably meant iMovie.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV-315. It's old but works great. Never had a single problem with it. The equivalent now has memory cards for stills. It works on 8mm tape (easily found internationaly). On the negative side, it's not small. The price has dropped a lot since I got it (as most DV cams)
