I own a nikon LS-3510AF film scanner. I just purchased a G4 and installed an daptec 2906 scsi card. When I fist started using the scanner it worked fine. Now it wont work at all.I keep getting an error message saying that there is a scsi communications error or that there is a macintosh system error. Adaptec says that nikon needs to update the drivers. And I agree with them, but nikon refuses tosupport this product any longer. Nikon says adaptec needs to design a card that supports old scsi. Im realy at a loss. I dont want to invest in a new scanner but I realy need one for my work. Has anyone tried a USB to SCSI connector? Do they work?

Since your scanner was working with the G4, have you considered that there might be a SCSI I.D. conflict? Have you added another SCSI device and/or installed drivers/extensions for other hardware, or software, that may be causing a conflict? Perhaps you might want to consider posting to: alt.comp.periphs.scanner

The cheapest option would probably be to buy an old Mac, such as a quadra or something 2nd hand. Ethernet it to your G4, and SCSI it to the scanner, using it purely as a scanning machine.
Old 68k Macs are going for a song at the moment (some places are just throwing them out), but they can still be quite handy, especially if you have legacy peripherals.

Networking two Macs via Ethernet has enabled the use of my legacy HPLaserJetIII printer with my iMac that I connected to my PowerMac 7200/75. A "crossover" cable with a RJ-45 plug is needed to connect the two Macs. Step-by-step instructions at http://www.threemacs.com/network/index.html
