Unfortunately, no. Since some of the G4's have no audio input, there's no way you can do it using conventional methods. I had to record the audio to my digital camcorder and then use Firewire to extract the audio. Leave it to Apple to remove audio input in the digital age.

I turn my LPs into AIFF files with Toast's CD Spin Doctor on a Powerbook G4. I don't use iTunes or MP3, but shouldn't it be able to convert AIFF files to MP3?

Piece of cake! You simply buy an imic from Griffin and connect in the following order. vinyl player - amp (phono in and tape out)- imic - G4. You record into some freeware/shareware/demo sound app and save the files in AIFF format. Then you simply use Itunes to convert the songs to MP-3.
I do it all the time. Works like a charm.

ive never used the imic, cause my imac has an audio-in, but i recommend using felttip sound studio to do your recording (once youve got the connection thing figureed out). it saves as an AIFF file, gives you a nice graphic wavelength thing for editting, etc, then i used MPegger to convert them to mp3's. both are really nice programs. no idea if either of them are available for OS X if youre using that...

Once you get your iMic to get the sound in, I highly recommend picking up Coaster for free to do your editing.. It's an amazing Freeware program that records as AIFF.. You then need to cut it up and track it off.. I personally use Peak LE (came with my Adaptec Jam). Another choice for doing things would be downloading ProTools Free, but it's not as "basic" and "simple" as the other programs mentioned above.. I've yet to figure it out (although I haven't given it much time)..

Is the iMic actually a mic or is it a line in component?
Anyone have an url and price for this device? I'd like
to get a digital mic-in since my analog input is nice but
I know I could get better audio.

Hmm. No the Imic is not a mic it's a line in and line out that you connect via usb. Here you will find griffins homepage. It sells for something like 35 dollars.
Performance wise it's great. Before I got my Cube I recorded vinyl with my iMac and the quality of the imic recordings are noticably better.
