I've pretty much switched over to Mac OS X as my main OS. Everything is going pretty well, most of the stuff I need/use is working in OS X or at least has confirmed future support and mostly some sort of 'beta'.
So far the only things I'm really missing are the ability to sync my Palm (but they keep saying it's comming) and the ability to use my scanner.
I've got a UMAX Astra 1220U. I believe UMAX pretty much said 'NO' to OS X drivers. I'm not to happy about that, but I can't seem to find any OS X information on scanner support.
So, anyone know anything about scanner support under OS X? Is there a scanner out there I can buy today and use under OS X? have any companies commited to providing drivers for existing scanners under OS X? Is Apple building some sort of 'scanner services' into OS X?
I'm just curious....

You can sync your palm through Classic and some say they have the scanners working through classic as well. I personally have not got that working yet.
There is also a program calle VueScan that runs under OSX and works with a lot of scanners (just not mine).

Agfa Snapscan e50 works well in classic, but Agfa has stopped (or will be soon) making consumer scanners and digital cameras.

Go to www.hamrick.com and check out the scanners supported by Vuescan. It runs native in OS X and does a good job. I'm using it with a Minolta Elite and a Umax 2200, both in a $60 SCSI card(Adaptec 2906). Check out GraphicConverter for working with the scans.

Agfa snapscan touch is supported with X drivers. I believe some of their other models are also. duck
