I posted this in Networking as well, but thought I'd try you guys.

Greetings:

Perhaps this forum can answer my question.

I was wondering if I could scan an item using my Canon Pixma MP500 and send it over my Airport Express instead of directly connecting the scanner to my iMac via USB.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

No.

The USB port on the AirPort units (Extreme/Express) are only supported for printing; scanning and other functions will not work. Direct USB connection to the computer is required for scanning.

(and just for completeness, the USB port on the AirPort Express will also support one of the Keyspan iTunes remote control products. Don't recall the name).

No, but HP has some AIO printer/scanner/copier/fax/etc that have an ethernet port, so everything can be done over the network.
Mac update estimates: MacBook Pro 1Q10 (quad core Nehalem [Clarksfield]); MacBook 1Q10 (Arrandale); MacBook Air 1Q10 (Arrandale LV); Mac Pro/Xserve 1Q10 (6 core Westmere, 64+GB RAM); iMac 3Q10 (quad core everywhere); Mac mini 2010
