I am looking for a simple application to send and receive a couple of faxes over a cable modem. Seems that Fax stf (which came bundled with my iMac) doesn't work with a cable modem.

I have an iMac DV SE 400, 256Mb/13Gb, OS 9.0.4

Many thanks in advance.

A cable modem isn't a "modem" in the traditional sense. You simply cannot transmit or receive faxes through it. Your options are to use your old modem via phone lines or use one of the internet fax services.

A few sites that will let you send faxs over your internet connection (cable modem) are:

http://www.faxaway.com/
http://www.efax.com/
http://www.faxsav.com/
http://www.fax4free.com/

I haven't used any of these, so I don't know if you have to pay for them or not.

Hope this helps.

Thank you guys!

Looks like my internal 56k modem is not so useless after all...

I recently asked the same question about faxing and my DSL connection. No go. My solution is going to be to add an internal 56k modem to my B&W G3 right along side of the DSL line. Since you can talk on the same phone line providing your DSL connection the one line should do the trick.

Jean-Luc,

Actually your faxmodem won't be used at all - you'll use an application from one of the above sites and they will fax it and receive faxes for you.
